Weblog Awards Aftermath
Posted under places beginning with: Site News .
First of all, Alan and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took time out to vote for us at the 2007Weblog Awards. The whole thing came as a total surprise and we are truly humbled by your support. We received a total of 242 votes and although we didn’t come anywhere close to ‘winning’ our category (’Best New Blog’), the recognition and publicity it has given our project, and more importantly the human connections it has forged, surpass anything we could have hoped for.
We would like to congratulate the Jammie Wearing Fool crew on their decisive result in winning the category. We’d also like to say thank you to fellow finalist, Joel Schwartzberg, for taking a personal interest in Calling America and for having submitted a fascinating story called “The 37 year Old Version” and we strongly recommend visiting his blog for further stimulating posts.
As you can see, the competition brought a massive influx of traffic to Calling America and has put us in touch with some great people, we’d like to continue this momentum over the coming months and so we invite all readers and would-be readers to submit any stories they may have or maybe thinking about.
We welcome stories in all forms, shapes and sizes and if you look over some of the material we’ve received thus far, you’ll recognise a wide range of styles and approaches to the idea of storytelling. From photographs and personal diary type entries, to poems and longer narrative pieces, if you have something in mind, get it together in a form that suits you best and send it our way! We’re looking forward to the run up to Christmas and we wish everyone well.
