In Passing
Posted under places beginning with: N; Newfane; Vermont .
This latest submission comes to us from Mary Edwards, former resident of Newfane, Vermont. This marks the first story submitted with a photograph.

Please find attached a photo of the old congregational church in Newfane, Vermont where I used to live. This is where I should have got married to Mr. R. Willis in the fall of 1980. Due to a series of events that I don’t wish to reveal, our wedding never took place. Shortly after this experience, I decided to move away from Newfane to Laconia, New Hampshire by Lake Winnipesaukee, where I began a new life as a librarian.
I passed through Newfane two years ago while driving down to visit my parents in New York. A waitress at the local diner told me that the old church had been torn down, plagued by dry rot and woodworm. All that remains is the spire and that now serves as a dove cot just next to the town’s graveyard.

Just discovered your site today via Dave Seah’s blog. I really like the idea behind all of this. I was quite touched by this latest story. I know it’s totally none of my business but the ‘voyeur’ in me wants to know what happened “in the fall of 1980″ exactly!
