Welcome to Calling America

Posted under places beginning with: Site News .

The bedrock of Calling America is the ancient art of storytelling - an act that has contributed to the formation of cultures since the first signs of human life on this planet. We inform ourselves about each other and about the world through stories. We draw meaning and metaphor from them, they inhabit our dreams and our dreams inhabit them.

Satellites, computers and the Internet are just a few of many new technologies that have enabled international communication at the click of a button from the confines of our own homes. But while these new media are fast being exploited by the corporate world, and particularly the advertising industry, comparatively little has been done to explore the cultural potential that these media present.

Calling America hopes to make a small contribution to exploring the development of culture through new Internet media. In a broad sense Calling America is a call to the heart of culture, to people and their stories. It asks them to share memories and thoughts with others and hopes to form a rich tapestry of tales and imagery.
